Full Circle

I've got a new-old gig! I've recently switched schools. My old high school, Satellite Academy, finally had an English position available. My old Social Studies teacher, David Silberberg, invited me to his retirement party where I learned about the opening. He introduced me to the current principal and now I'm back where it all started.

I'm super-psyched to be back teaching in the school that inspired me to become an educator! Satellite provided me with a foundation that I sorely needed during that time, informed the tenets that I have followed in an 18-year long career as an educator, and continues to provide a basis for the teacher I aspire to become. Wish me luck!

The Home Stretch

Well, here we are once again. In the home stretch of another school year. We have a Quality Review scheduled next week, which has everyone a bit on edge. My kids are seniors this year and I'm so excited to see them through to bigger and better things. Senior trip, yearbook, prom, graduation, aaaaahhhhh!!!! It's all just sooooo much! But, I'm super-psyched and ready for this final stretch!!!

Home Sweet Home

What a weekend! Scheduled the move for Saturday but the floors weren't done yet; so, we brought half of our things into the basement. Floors still weren't ready on Sunday; so, we moved everything from my dad's house into the garage. Finally, brought in the last of my stuff on Monday morning and moved everything up from the basement and the garage after 9am on Monday.

Happy Memorial Day!
It's been a roller-coaster, but we're in.

Looking to the Spring

Wow! The Fall semester is over and I'm psyched about the coming Spring semester. Teaching Regents is tough. Many of my students seemed to give up near the end of the semester when I thought they should have been gearing up for the exam. I'm sure test anxiety had a lot to do with that. Out of 94 students who sat for the exam, 55 passed. That's 59%. A few of them, reportedly, had meltdowns in the testing room. I'll speak with those students and try to assuage their anxiety for June. Congratulations to all of my brave students! I know it's tough.

Start-of-year Thoughts

So, a new school year has begun! It has been a little hectic; but, I'm excited. I look forward to learning new things, meeting new people, and doing the best that I can for those that I know and love. This year, I'll have the pleasure of working again with the first class of students I taught at Heritage. We're gonna work hard to do well on the Regents and figure out a lot of things about ourselves along the way. Come on 2010, we're gonna make sure we do everything possible to make our lives prosperous and meaningful as we we move towards the future.
